HIRU TV WINS BEST MOBILE APP AT THE UN BASED WORLD SUMMIT AWARDS 2014. -VIDEO

Hiru TV Mobile App from Sri Lanka ranked into the world’s top 40 in mobile content brilliance, shining a light on mobile innovation in m-Media & News.

Amid the world’s best mobile application developers Hiru TV Mobile App will be honoured with the global UN-based World Summit Award mobile (WSA mobile) in February, 1-3 at the WSA mobile Global Congress in Abu Dhabi. Selected from over 480 from over 100 countries, Hiru TV Mobile App was selected in the Category m-Media & News by an international Jury.

HIRU TV, Sri Lanka’s Number One TV Channel, recognized for its creative and high quality programs and credible news, It’s mobile applications too lives up to this reputation and offers a rich unique entertainment experience beyond the shores of Sri Lanka to connect the globally scattered Sinhala speaking diaspora. It is significant that the app has connected many homes and villages in Sri Lanka to their family members working or living overseas specially the Sinhala speaking migrant worker communities in the Middle East. It has commendably converged the old media of television with new media of ubiquitous mobile devices to bring to its audience Hiru Live TV, favorite TV programs, up-to-the-minute news reporting, articles, photos, videos and blogs in a dynamic and personalized way. Hiru TV’s Mobile App is the ONLY MEDIA APP from Sri Lanka to compete at the WSA 2014. It is also significant that the Hiru TV App is one among the only three Winners from South Asia to be awarded at the World Summit Awards, Mobile Global Congress in Abu Adhabi. Amid 39 projects from 30 countries Hiru TV Mobile App will be honoured with the World Summit Award mobile. In front of UN representatives, ICT ministries and the private sectors. Hiru TV Mobile App will receive their Award in the m-Media & News category at the World Summit Global Congress in Abu Dhabi, 1-3 February, 2015 hosted by ADSIC.

The WSA-mobile winners were selected by a Jury of international ICT experts in two democratic rounds. Each UN Member State is eligible to nominate one product per category for the World Summit Award. This way any nomination results from a national pre-selection prior to the international WSA Jury. The Hiru TV Mobile App was selected by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) among all News and Media Apps in Sri Lanka and was nominated to represent Sri Lanka at the WSA 2014.

Hosted by the Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre (ADSIC), the WSA mobile Global Congress will deliver a best practice exhibition of the top digital m-Content projects worldwide. From 1-3 February 2015, Abu Dhabi will turn into “a global panopticam of smart minds doing smart things”, states Peter A. Bruck.

The agenda of the WSA mobile Global Congress will be a compilation of interaction and inspiration, assembling workshops, business blind-dates and infamous keynotes, bringing together UN and governmental representatives, privates sector and innovators.

The World Summit Award Mobile is a global initiative within the framework of, and in cooperation with, the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), in collaboration with UNESCO, UNIDO and UN GAID. The WSA-mobile is the only ICT event worldwide, that reaches the mobile community in over 170 countries. Abu Dhabi, as the city of the award’s key partner ADSIC (Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Centre), is host for all WSA-mobile Awards.
